VIEW DETAILS
Image of a sleek wine bottle with a dark glass that gradually reveals the red wine within. The label is a sophisticated matte black with a golden, cursive signature that reads 'Scanlon' and the initials 'JSR' below in a lighter gold tone. The vintage year '2022' is discreetly placed in the bottom right corner of the label. The bottle's cap is black, matching the elegant and minimalistic aesthetic of the packaging.
94 Points James Halliday Wine Companion

A lot of nous and care behind this wine, and it shows. This is a hauntingly beautiful Pinot Noir, fine-boned, fresh-feeling, that sense of energy that parlays straight into an ephemeral notion of deliciousness and a nigh-on thirst-quenching nature. Red cherries, sweet spice, alpine herbs and faint clove seasoning are the order of the day – the bouquet and palate in accord. The texture is silky but has a fine, almost pumice-stone minerally grip, drawing the wine out exceptionally long. Elegant, refined, excellent.

Winemaker's Notes

Handpicked by relatives to ensure only the best bunches were picked, this wine comes from our best parcels in the vineyard. Soley from the top of the hill section of high density block Abel, 667 and 115. Some vines only produced 3 small bunches of intense flavour and concentration. In the winery, warmer fermentation temperatures in wide stainless-steel fermenters allowing extremely high skin to juice ratio for greater flavour extraction. Extended maceration and time on skins. Fermented and matured in French Francois Frere hogshead barrels separately until a month before bottling. A powerful wine made in the Burgundian style that rewards decanting while young.

Cellaring Recommendations

Now (will benefit from 1 hour plus in the decanter) to 10+ years if you can wait that long.

Harry Scanlon

Meet the maker: Harry Scanlon

Harry grew up in and around the family vineyard at Scanlon Estate, located in the Adelaide Hills, and was quickly introduced to the vine and wine world.

Harry knew from a young age it was his ambition to become a winemaker. Harry was lucky enough to be introduced to all things wine by the late and truly great Taras Ochota of Ochota Barrels, and is currently working with the Pinot masters Stephen George and Liam Van Pelt of Ashton Hills Vineyard.

In the past Harry has worked with Louis Schofield of Worlds Apart Wines, along with the constant support and helping hand of Alex Trescowthick currently of Red Heads, Tresco Wine and previously a Nepenthe Head Winemaker.

Harry’s obsession with Burgundy has inspired him to make wines that not only speak of place and are unique to the Piccadilly Valley, but wine of the highest quality with upmost perfectionism and age ability in mind.
