I'm Matt Chalmers. I created Wine Simple because choosing exceptional wine shouldn't be complicated. Every bottle is personally selected, every recommendation genuine, and every wine has earned its place.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
I didn't start Wine Simple because I wanted to build the biggest wine store in Australia. I started it because I love wine.
Before Wine Simple, I spent 22 years in policing. Along the way, wine became a genuine passion. I was buying it, tasting it and learning more about what made one bottle memorable and another forgettable.
In 2018, I started Wine Review Simple on Instagram. It was a place to share honest wine reviews without the snobbery, confusing language or unnecessary fuss. What started as a passion project grew into a community and introduced me to some extraordinary Australian winemakers.
The more wines I tasted and the more producers I met, the more I realised that some of Australia's most interesting wines weren't necessarily the biggest names. Many came from smaller, passionate producers making exceptional wines with real character.
Eventually, I thought: rather than just telling people about the wines I love, why not make it easier for them to buy those wines?
That's how Wine Simple began. An independent, family-owned online wine store built around quality, value, character and genuine recommendations.
