Description

A Testament to Craftsmanship and History.

When you think of Grenache, few wines compare to the intricate care and passion that go into the Hoffmann Church Block Grenache. The Hoffmann family has been cultivating the land since the late 1800s, with the Church Block vineyard holding a special place in their heritage. Every vine on this historic plot is lovingly nurtured, and the 2020 vintage is a testament to their deep connection to the land and the Grenache varietal. This wine is serious, sophisticated, and crafted with the utmost dedication, offering a taste of history in every glass.

Wine critic Erin Larkin praises the 2020 Church Block Grenache. I think the word "Epic" may have been used.

Adrian Hoffmann

Meet the maker: Adrian Hoffmann

Sixth generation and current custodian of the Hoffmann Vineyard Adrian grew up on the property spending a lot of time with his grandfather, Gordon. Fortunately for Adrian, this time together meant that Gordon shared his deep-rooted knowledge of the district, the family farm, and farming. He also encouraged Adrian to learn on the job, tolerating mistakes and allowing him to learn from them.

He possesses a rare source of multi-generational, viticulture knowledge – an innate understanding of the dirt, climate, vines – which he complements with the latest research, a marketing focus, and a commitment to continually developing the vineyard.

About the Winery & Vineyard: Hoffmann Family Vineyard

Hoffmann Family Vineyards is a renowned vineyard located in the heart of the Northern Barossa Valley, a region celebrated for producing some of Australia’s most sought-after wines. The Hoffmann family has been tending to their vineyards for generations, establishing a deep connection to the land and a commitment to excellence in grape growing. Their focus is primarily on Shiraz, and the vineyard has gained a stellar reputation for producing high-quality, small-batch wines that embody the richness and power of the Barossa Valley.

The Hoffmann vineyards are meticulously managed, by Adrian Hoffmann with a dedication to sustainable practices and a strong belief in the importance of terroir. The family’s vineyards are located in Ebenezer, one of the premier sub-regions of the Northern Barossa, known for its old vines, which yield intensely flavoured and structured grapes. Hoffmann Family Vineyards supplies some of the most respected winemakers in the region, and their fruit is a key component in several iconic Barossa Valley wines. Their own wines are a reflection of the vineyard’s unique site, combining concentration, depth, and elegance.

About the Wine Region: Northern Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s most iconic and historic wine regions, known for producing bold and powerful Shiraz. Located in South Australia, the Barossa Valley has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and cool winters, providing ideal conditions for viticulture.
The Northern Barossa, where the Hoffmann vineyards are situated, is particularly renowned for its ancient, low-yielding vines, which produce some of the most concentrated and flavour-packed Shiraz in the world.

The Northern Barossa’s sub-region of Ebenezer is famed for its unique combination of deep red-brown soils over limestone, which contributes to the distinctive character of its wines. Wines from this area often display intense dark fruit, spice, and chocolate notes, with robust tannins and great aging potential. The warm climate in the Northern Barossa, combined with these old vines, allows for the development of complex and powerful wines, particularly Shiraz, which thrives in these conditions. The region is also celebrated for Grenache and Mataro, which add to the diversity of the Barossa’s red wine offerings.
