Description

A rare treasure from Barossa’s ancient Cabernet stock. This 2017 Special Cellar Release honors the Planta Circa line—vintage Cabernet from heritage vines with depth, structure and longevity.

Aromas of dark cassis, blackcurrant leaf, dried herbs and subtle cedar open early, giving way to a palate of black cherry, leather, graphite and crushed rock minerality, framed by firm, fine-grain tannins and enduring structure.

Wild yeast fermentation over 8 days on skins, matured for 17 months on lees in 44% new French oak hogsheads, delivering both power and elegance true to old-vine Cab style.

Winemaker's Notes

Wild yeast-open fermentation with 8 days on skins, meticulous hand-plunging. Matured on lees for 17 months in 44% new French oak hogsheads, capturing the deep intensity and elegant structure unique to ancient Barossa vines. Finely balanced tannins, elegant fruit structure, and classic Cabernet complexity.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is part of the esteemed Ancestor Vine classification, representing some of the oldest producing vines globally, sitting alongside legendary vineyards such as Henschke's Hill of Grace and Penfolds' Block 42. Owning a bottle is to hold a piece of Australian wine history.
