95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion

Perched at the peak of Denton's North-Eastern slope, the 2021 Denton Pinot Noir is a masterpiece of terroir-driven winemaking. Grown on ancient granite soils, this wine thrives in a unique microclimate that preserves freshness while intensifying concentration. The result? A stunning Pinot Noir that balances bright red and black fruit, mineral florals, and a fine, structured tannin frame.

Crafted by renowned winemaker Luke Lambert, this wine saw 60% whole bunch fermentation, spending three weeks on skins before aging 15 months in 500L French oak puncheons (13% new). No fining, no filtration – just pure, unadulterated Pinot Noir magic.

Expect vibrant energy, depth, and serious cellar potential, all wrapped in the effortless charm of Yarra Valley’s cool-climate Pinot Noir.

A bottle of Denton Pinot Noir 2021, showcasing its elegant design and vibrant Yarra Valley heritage.

95 Points James Halliday Wine Companion

Expressive on the nose with its bouquet of wild strawberries and a little blood orange together with florals and some secondary forest floor scents. The medium-bodied palate is both silky smooth and structured, relying as much on the wine's bright acidity for its backbone as it does on the fine, gently grippy tannins.

Winemaker's Notes

he Denton Pinot Noir block sits at the very top of our North Eastern slope, and sees the softest morning light and is shielded from the hot afternoon sun. The planting density here is 1.3m x 0.8m and this high density spacing always gives us more power and concentration while maintaining the lightness and elegance of the vineyard. The granitic sand over granite boulders and long, slow growing season provide a very special and unique terroir.

This unique micro-climate and soil profile contribute lots of bright, fresh red and black fruit, and mineral florals, framed by fine tannin on an acid frame.

Winemaking
60% whole bunch, 3 weeks on skins then pressed to 500 litre French oak puncheons (13% new) and left unsulfured for 15 months prior to bottling without fining or filtration.

Vintage 2021
An excellent year that required hard work in the vineyard to control disease pressure and canopy growth but the hard work paid off. A classic Yarra Valley growing season with a long and mild Summer with regular rainfall at the right time.
