Denton Pinot Noir 2021

The Denton Pinot Noir block sits at the very top of our North Eastern slope, and sees the softest morning light and is shielded from the hot afternoon sun. The planting density here is 1.3m x 0.8m and this high density spacing always gives us more power and concentration while maintaining the lightness and elegance of the vineyard. The granitic sand over granite boulders and long, slow growing season provide a very special and unique terroir.

This unique micro-climate and soil profile contribute lots of bright, fresh red and black fruit, and mineral florals, framed by fine tannin on an acid frame.

Winemaking
60% whole bunch, 3 weeks on skins then pressed to 500 litre French oak puncheons (13% new) and left unsulfured for 15 months prior to bottling without fining or filtration.

Vintage 2021
An excellent year that required hard work in the vineyard to control disease pressure and canopy growth but the hard work paid off. A classic Yarra Valley growing season with a long and mild Summer with regular rainfall at the right time.

Drinking beautifully now but will continue to evolve over the next 8–12 years, developing greater complexity and depth.

The 2021 Denton Pinot Noir comes from a high-density vineyard planted in granitic sand over boulders, producing an expressive and complex wine. It sees 60% whole bunch fermentation, a slow three-week maceration, and 15 months in large-format French oak, resulting in a Pinot of fine structure, minerality, and lifted floral aromatics.
