Description

Altitude elegance in Pinot form. Nick Spencer’s Pinot Noir brings the freshness of Tumbarumba elevation into a red that balances grace, detail and persistence.

Aromas of red cherry, cranberry and rose petal hover delicately. The palate reveals layers of strawberry, forest floor, subtle spice and silky tannins, underpinned by crystalline acid and a refined mineral tone.

Winemaker's Notes

Pinot Noir is the famed red grape of Burgundy and is responsible for some of the most revered and celebrated red wines in the world. In Australia it is grown in mostly cooler regions including Tasmania, the Yarra Valley and of course Tumbarumba. The styles of wine can very depending where they are grown, from light crunchier styles to full bodied dense dark and tannic wines.
De-stemmed, fermented on skins with an extended maturation of 30 days post ferment. Matured in old French oak puncheons for 8 months.
The fruit is grown on the Moppitty Vineyard in The Tumbarumba region. The vineyard sits at 740 m/asl on decomposed light granite soils.

Further Information About this Wine

Tumbarumba offers a cooler climate and high-altitude environment which lends this Pinot its brightness, invigorating acidity and lithe structure. This wine leans into clarity, voicing its terroir: minerals, forest complexity, cherry lift. The gentle handling in the cellar ensures it retains integrity over power. Over time, expect secondary detail—sous-bois, dried herb, subtle spice—while still holding true to its core red-fruit character. It’s a wine of balance, made for both early enjoyment and graceful evolution.

About Tumbarumba Wine Region

TWO DISTINCT RANGES - ONE SIMPLE PHILOSOPHY
Our approach to winemaking is very simple, to craft uncomplicated wines of purity. To do so we ultimately seek balance in our wines and utilise winemaking techniques or lack thereof that emphasise purity and expresion of fruit. We think in pursuing this philospohy, the fundamental objectives of crafting wines that reflect the environment they are grown in will take care of it self.

Drawing on inspiration from our rich Australian winemaking history, Nick Spencer Wines started with two red blends, a Light Dry red paying homage to the Australian 'Red Burgundies' and a Medium Dry Red paying honouring the Australian "Clarets". These two wines were the genesis of the brand and remain our two most important wines. Blending red varietals is a craft that seeks to balance complexity and harmony, enhancing each grape's unique characteristics to create a wine greater than the sum of its parts. We should be focussing more on the style of a wine, its structure, balance and where it from etc rather than what variety is! In 2023 a second range of wines, P.A.R, was launched. P.A.R focuses its attention on alternative varietals and ancient winemaking techniques.
