About the Wine Region: Grampians

The Grampians Wine Region is one of Victoria’s oldest and most picturesque wine-growing areas, celebrated for its premium cool-climate wines. With a history dating back to the 1860s, the region is renowned for producing some of Australia’s finest Shiraz, known for its rich, spicy character, and exceptional aging potential. The Grampians’ combination of high elevation, cool temperatures, and ancient soils provides the ideal conditions for growing Shiraz, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The region’s winemakers, like those at Sub Rosa, are known for their commitment to producing wines that express the distinct characteristics of the Grampians’ rugged landscape. The cool climate allows for a long, slow ripening period, resulting in wines with intense fruit flavours, balanced acidity, and refined tannins. Grampians Shiraz is particularly celebrated for its peppery spice and savoury notes, making it a standout among Australian wines. The region’s focus on sustainability and organic practices ensures that the wines from the Grampians are as environmentally conscious as they are delicious.
