Description

Provence in every drop. Maison Saint Aix’s 2023 AIX Rosé captures the purity, finesse and whisper of the hills north of Aix-en-Provence.

Aromas of white peach, strawberry, citrus blossom and wet stone dance from the glass, while the palate delivers raspberry, melon, blood orange and a subtle saline edge with brisk acidity and a clean, drifting finish.

Grapes are hand-picked at cool hours (6–28 September), gently pressed (30% bleeding, 70% direct press), with temperature-controlled fermentation (11–13 °C). The estate sits at 420 m altitude, giving freshness and tension to the blend.

Further Information About this Wine

The AIX Rosé is a classic expression of Provençal rosé, delivered with elegance, restraint and finesse. The blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault—with Grenache supplying fruit and structure, Syrah depth and grip, and Cinsault lift and florality—offers balance and tonal refinement. The estate sits at 420 m altitude, among the highest in the appellation, which brings cooler nights, enhanced freshness and tension.

The 2023 vintage was tough: frost in January, storms in spring, downy mildew pressure, and one of the hottest summers on record. But these conditions also concentrated flavor and tightened acidity.

In the glass, the experience is subtle—white stone, raspberries, citrus and saline lift—rather than overt fruitiness. It’s a wine built for freshness, food synergy and graceful drinking—not weight. With careful handling it can retain steam for 1–2 years before softening.

About AIX

Maison Saint Aix is a distinguished producer in Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, blending tradition and modernity atop hills averaging 420 m altitude. The estate has committed to sustainable viticulture, with organic practices and soil regeneration efforts. The AIX Rosé is central to their identity—a benchmark Provençal rosé built on intensity, finesse and terroir. The vineyards are planted to Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault, with old Grenache vines (50–60 years) delivering concentrated character and younger material adding freshness. Despite challenging conditions in 2023—frost, storms, mildew and heat—the team preserved clarity and balance in the wine. Maison Saint Aix has invested in modern cellar infrastructure, gentle pressing, cool fermentation and precision in blending. They aim for consistency, freshness and global presence, positioning AIX Rosé as a premium expression of Provence accessible yet expressive.

About Provence France Wine Region

Provence is the spiritual home of rosé wine. Among its sub-regions, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence lies inland from the Mediterranean, benefiting from sun, altitude and cooling Mistral winds. The soils are predominantly calcareous, limestone, clay and siliceous, lending minerality and tension to fruit. The climate sees hot, dry summers tempered by sea breezes and nights that allow acid retention. Traditional Provençal rosés rely on grape varieties like Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, which excel here for color, fragrance, and structure. The "bleeding" (saignée) technique and immediate gentle pressing preserve freshness, while the terroir ensures freshness, saline nuance and subtle complexity—a defining hallmark of fine Provence roses. The region produces pale, lively, gastronomic rosés meant to drink young, yet with enough backbone to accompany cuisine with herbs, seafood or light meats.
