Greenock Creek Grenache

SKU:2023 | Barossa Valley | Grenache

Description

Sourced from the northernmost tip of the Barossa Valley, the Greenock Creek 2023 Grenache showcases the best of its Moppa vineyard. Grown on an east-facing slope with ancient stone and red-brown loams, this Grenache benefits from the diversity of its soils, producing low yields of small, intensely flavoured berries. Raspberry and mulberry fruits dominate the palate, supported by a hint of white pepper from the cool ripening season. Fine, powdery tannins lead to a bright, fresh, and delicate finish. Aged for 8 months in seasoned French and American oak, this wine brings together juicy red fruit with a savoury edge—an elegant and refined expression of Barossa Grenache.

About this Wine

The Greenock Creek 2023 Grenache comes from a single block of Grenache vines planted on Moppa’s eastern slopes, located at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley’s western edge. The ancient red-brown loam soils and the marble-ironstone seam beneath them result in low-yielding vines with small, flavour-packed berries. This Grenache spent 7-10 days fermenting with whole berries retained for juicy red fruit character, then basket-pressed to a combination of seasoned French and American oak for 8 months. White pepper, raspberry, and mulberry notes come together over fine tannins for a fresh and delicate finish.

Winemaker's Notes

The undulating slopes at Moppa provide perfect conditions for growing Grenache. The ancient soils, rich in ironstone and marble, contribute to the complex flavour profile of this wine. The decision to retain whole berries in the ferment adds layers of juicy red fruit. The wine spent 8 months in seasoned oak, allowing the fruit to shine while balancing it with structure and subtle spice from the cool ripening season.
