Description

The 2022 Hoffmann DV Grenache Carignan is a vibrant and aromatic blend that truly reflects the Barossa Valley's renowned winemaking expertise.

As grower Adrian Hoffmann puts it, “The vintage tells me what needs to be made each year,” and the 2022 vintage speaks volumes. With fragrant Satsuma plums, raspberry, chocolate, and aniseed on the nose, this wine is concentrated yet light on its feet. A fresh, detailed profile of fruit runs through this wine, making it perfect for Spring and Summer sipping or pairing with a cheese and charcuterie platter.

With its fine acidity and balance, this wine is equally enjoyable now or can be cellared until 2037.

Winemaker's Notes

According to Adrian Hoffmann, the winemaker and grower, the vintage dictates the character of the wine. In 2022, a mild season led to a wine with finesse and nuance, captured in the aromatic complexity and balanced acidity. The wine’s bright red fruit and deep chocolate notes are a reflection of the terroir, with the Grenache grown on red-brown earth and the Carignan on classic Terra Rossa soils.

Adrian Hoffmann

Meet the maker: Adrian Hoffmann

Sixth generation and current custodian of the Hoffmann Vineyard Adrian grew up on the property spending a lot of time with his grandfather, Gordon. Fortunately for Adrian, this time together meant that Gordon shared his deep-rooted knowledge of the district, the family farm, and farming. He also encouraged Adrian to learn on the job, tolerating mistakes and allowing him to learn from them.

He possesses a rare source of multi-generational, viticulture knowledge – an innate understanding of the dirt, climate, vines – which he complements with the latest research, a marketing focus, and a commitment to continually developing the vineyard.

Barossa Valley

About the Winery: Hoffmann Family Vineyard

Hoffmann Family Vineyards is a renowned vineyard located in the heart of the Northern Barossa Valley, a region celebrated for producing some of Australia’s most sought-after wines. The Hoffmann family has been tending to their vineyards for generations, establishing a deep connection to the land and a commitment to excellence in grape growing. Their focus is primarily on Shiraz, and the vineyard has gained a stellar reputation for producing high-quality, small-batch wines that embody the richness and power of the Barossa Valley.

The Hoffmann vineyards are meticulously managed, with a dedication to sustainable practices and a strong belief in the importance of terroir. The family’s vineyards are located in Ebenezer, one of the premier sub-regions of the Northern Barossa, known for its old vines, which yield intensely flavoured and structured grapes. Hoffmann Family Vineyards supplies some of the most respected winemakers in the region, and their fruit is a key component in several iconic Barossa Valley wines. Their own wines are a reflection of the vineyard’s unique site, combining concentration, depth, and elegance.

About the Wine Region: Barossa Valley

The Barossa Valley is world-famous for its rich red wines, and Hoffmann Family Vineyards captures this tradition in its Grenache and Carignan. The Grenache is sourced from the Farm Block, grown on red-brown earth over clay, while the Carignan is grown on the Dallwitz Block, which features classic Terra Rossa soils with limestone ridges. This combination of terroirs creates a complex and balanced wine, reflecting the region’s unique capacity for producing world-class alternative red wines.
