Schwarz Meta Grenache 2022
Barossa Valley
About the Winery: Schwarz Wine Co.
Schwarz Wine Co. was founded by Jason Schwarz, a Barossa Valley local with deep roots in the region’s viticulture and winemaking traditions. Jason grew up on his family’s vineyard, where his passion for the land and its grapes blossomed. He has always had a hands-on approach, working alongside his father in the vineyard and later studying winemaking to hone his skills.
The philosophy behind Schwarz Wine Co. is all about crafting wines that speak of place and terroir, with a strong focus on minimal intervention and small-batch production. Jason believes in allowing the vineyard and the grape variety to express themselves without heavy-handed winemaking techniques. This means using wild yeast fermentation, minimal oak influence, and sustainable vineyard practices to produce wines that are pure, vibrant, and true to their origins.
Schwarz Wine Co. has earned a reputation for producing exceptional Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro (Mourvèdre) wines. Jason is particularly passionate about old-vine Grenache and Mataro, two varietals that thrive in the warm Barossa climate and contribute to the rich tapestry of Barossa's alternative red wines. His Meta series showcases his dedication to minimal intervention winemaking, focusing on small parcels of fruit from carefully selected vineyards.
By maintaining close relationships with local growers, Jason ensures that Schwarz Wine Co. only works with the best fruit, reflecting the diversity and richness of the Barossa Valley. His wines are known for their balance, elegance, and structure, offering a true reflection of the Barossa’s heritage and future.
